FIELD’S HOLDFAST A WINNER
In Holdfast, as in her other novels (True, The Nest of Our Being), Melinda Field spins a great yarn, this one woven from the strands of the sea. She drops the reader into fully realized lives and personalities from the first page and draws the reader irresistibly on, page after page. In the linking of her main character Lezah with the archetypal mermaid, there are echoes of the Irish legend of the selkie, adding a deeper layer of mythic resonance to the story. Just as Field gave readers a vivid immersion in horse and ranch culture in her first novel True that rang deep with authenticity, in Holdfast, the reader is given a deep dive into Pacific coastal culture and a love of marine mammals that rings equally true. Lezah’s swimming with seals is a beautiful analogue for the healing of our relationship with nature.

All I can say is this book is a work of genius. There were so many facets that spoke directly to me. I was hooked within the first few pages. Holdfast is edgy, controversial, and educational. You can tell by the authors writing that she is passionate about the subjects in this book. Truly a gift to the modern day written world.

THE NEST OF OUR BEING
Powerful Poignant Page-turner!
Once again, Melinda Field, takes us on an amazing and adventurous ride, in the saddle of life, with all of our beloved characters, from her first novel True!
The Nest of Our Being, took my heart through all the emotions of her character’s journey, leaving me profoundly grateful for the deep issues she brings to light, and hopeful in the magic of healing, that her characters exemplify, in their persistent actions, of loving & caring for one another!
Be prepared, to want to share this book with your friends and family, and I will remain hopeful that we will be blessed with another sequel!

You have woven another beautiful story where I rode the waves of joy!
Bravo, bravo Melinda!! You have woven another beautiful story where I rode the waves of joy, pain and love once more. I read this book as a sequel to "True" and was delighted to visit with the characters of Green Valley again. It only took me two days to read this book, as I simply could not put it down. The characters are believeable, the story flows beautifully and I highly recommend this book to everyone. Once again, Melinda writes the hard stuff brilliantly. Bravo!

Couldn’t put it down!
Absolutely LOVED this book! I couldn’t put it down. It beautifully paints a story based on the power of love and friendship in partnership with a deep understanding and respect for nature. So descriptive and fluid. The images in my mind were distinct and comforting and the moments of fear felt real. I laughed, smiled and cried. The author has a real connection with people, nature and beyond.

TRUE
When I got this book I had no idea what a treat and treasure it would become in my life. I read it twice.
True is a captivating story about a circle of women who live in a tiny western town in the mountains.
Their lives are intertwined in lifelong friendship and love. I cried twice, held my breath many times, and
wanted to join them on their trecks to the mountains on their beloved horses. It was their sanctuary.
I could smell and taste each one's signature dish that they cherished and looked forward to enjoying with each other.
The food that they took to the mountains became tradition. I loved visiting their ranches. Thier laughter was contagious.
I could easily visualize the ranches, terrain and wildlife.
Did I mention the men? Oh... there are some dandies.
The women's trials of happiness, love, heartache, adversity and courage will stir your soul.
In sickness, sorrow and love, they held and stood by one another in life and friendship.
Any one of us would cherish a circle of friends such as these women.
Melinda is an exceptional author. I could see, taste, feel, smell and hear what she portrayed in every sentence. All of my senses were
on high alert because she captivates the reader with her talent.
It seemed that I was with them. Now that's powerful writing.
These women became my friends. I couldn't put this book down. And then I repeated the experience by reading it again, (I know, I told you that in the beginning, but it's a rarity for me).
Treat yourself to a story that you will love. It intuitively speaks to the heart and soul. I can't stop gushing.
Neither will you.
It's one of most cherished books in my library.

You're at least 40% through this book before she uses the word 'true', and its sudden appearance rings like a bell, leaving your nerve ends tingling, leaving you savoring how that one word rose like a bubble from the deep, to become the title of this story.
A group of women has formed long before the story begins, and one suspects, long before they were born, one by one, into the highly engaging world of this book. What is fragile and rigorous in their personalities runs side by side. Somehow they keep up with each other in ways we all long for, wishing we had as strong a bond, as deep a knowing of themselves and each other, as they do.
No matter what sudden storms rage in their lives, in their families and communities, and across the land, these women form Bedrock together: that which cannot be moved, destroyed, lost, or stolen.
My favorite part of the book is the deep connection with animals, nature, the landscape, the seasons. As the horses surge across valleys and up mountain trails, these women surge through their lives, creating havoc and splendor, love and tears, facing the trials and seasons of life and land.
Before you start to read, be sure to look at the author's photograph. It's the best I've ever seen. Before you read one word, you can tell this woman has really lived, and really has something to say. Thanks, Melinda Field, I love this book.

A Compelling Read!
"I had read Fields' first book, True, and really loved it. So, I was already on the edge of my seat when The Nest of our Being was released as a sequel. I was not disappointed! The writing is excellent...covering a gamut from lyrical to raw...the story line is strong, the character development was convincing, and the Wise Woman Archetype is the foundation upon which it all takes place. There are parts where you can't turn pages fast enough....and other parts where you have to lay the book down and reflect. It is written in the Theater of the Heart without any contemporary affectations. Old School and sweet...foundational...a book that Field, yet again, can build on."

“There are many good books out there but every once in a while you stumble on a truly great piece of literature that you know will remain timeless. This is one of those books. It will make you laugh, cry and feel joy. I know it is being marketed to women but, in my opinion, its audience will be found in every soul.”

“Heart opening...heart wrenching...superb writing...if this story doesn't deeply move you, you're made of ice. Melinda Field has fashioned a miraculous creation...her crafting of the human condition is astounding...the authenticity of her characters will reach into your soul for the truest love we anguish for called connection...real humanness...real family.”

"To paraphrase Leo Tolstoy, great literature grows from two stories: someone goes on a journey or a stranger comes to town. In Melinda Field’s first novel True, the character of young Cat sets events in motion- she is both on a journey and the stranger who comes to town.
True is set in the contemporary west and Field evokes a palpable sense of place. From the dusty heat of a Phoenix motel, redolent of curry and disinfectant to the cider scent of an orchard, the crunch of apples underfoot to the sharp-scented sage and dangerous shale of a mountain trail, the salt and blood of fear when a rattlesnake or mountain lion appears- True will transport readers from their easy chairs to a wild and authentic place."
